That he may a faithful successor to Saint Peter[21], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may obey Your word in Scripture and Tradition[22], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may preserve inviolate the deposit of faith[23], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may oppose error and opinions leading to error[24], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may lead in propagating the True Faith[25], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may ordain and teach all that You commanded[26], we beseech You, hear us!

That he may rightly dispense the divine mysteries[27], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may safeguard the integrity of the sacraments[28], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may follow the laws and customs of the Church[29], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may make just laws and wise judgments[30], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may guide us in holiness by word and example[31], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may preside in faith, hope, and charity[32], we beseech You, hear us!

That he may follow God rather than man[33], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may accept counsel and correction when needful[34], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may convict the world of its sin and God’s justice[35], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may call sinners and unbelievers to conversion, we beseech You, hear us!
That he may lead us in being signs of contradiction[36], we beseech You, hear us!
That he may serve God and defy the world, we beseech You, hear us!

Let us pray:

Lord Jesus Christ, Who made a sinful man[38] the rock of Your Church, we beseech You for the conversion of his successor, Francis. If he has erred, enlighten him; if he has strayed, correct him; if he has fallen, restore him. Confirm him in grace and truth, and confirm us through him[39], that as one flock under one shepherd[40] we may glorify the Father with You and the Holy Spirit[41], one God, now and in eternity. Amen.
